Facebook Overtakes MySpace
in Daily Reach

Three month comparison of Facebook vs. MySpace daily reach
23 Nov 07: According to Alexa statistics, Facebook now reigns supreme among social networks
Eclipsing MySpace
As the Alexa chart (above) shows, Facebook has overtaken MySpace in global daily reach. They also jumped a significant five places in daily traffic rank, confirming that thus far, Microsoft partnered with a winner and it didn’t tarnish Facebook’s popularity.
We’ll have to wait and see what Google and the OpenSocialites have to say about all that. Stay tuned.

There’s some debate about how accurate those Alexa numbers are. See this TechCrunch article, which compares the Alexa traffic against Comscore and Compete. http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/11/25/alexas-make-believe-internet/

Good point, a little triangulation is always a good idea.
However, in defense of the Alexa findings Google Trends all but concurs. And there is this (to some trending extent) tangential corroborating news from TechCrunch themselves just 2 months ago.
Comscore, Compete, Nielson//Net ratings and others have come under fire for errant reporting as well. It seems a foregone conclusion that they’re all fallible at best. Perhaps the option is to ignore all these metrics and their grinding axes altogether. Or at least not to give them undue weight.
The overriding point, and perhaps fairly safe and self-evident assertion, (i.e., my opinion) is that Facebook’s user base is growing and fetching many more headlines these days than it’s MySpace counterpart—except by comparison.
Regardless, thanks for the comment–point well taken.
